Local MP Anna Sabine calls on Chancellor to “save Frome and East Somerset’s high streets” at the Spring Statement

Ahead of the Spring Statement on Wednesday, Anna Sabine MP for Frome and East Somerset has urged the Chancellor to save the small businesses.

With the impending hike in employers’ national insurance, set to come into effect on 6th April, businesses in Frome and East Somerset are fearful for their future.

“I meet business owners every day who are worried about how they will survive. The rise in NICs means that many employers will be forced to let staff go, if not close completely. Not only is this a terrifying possibility for those directly involved but it will also lead to a larger strain on society with more people out of work, and less money moving through local economies.” Anna said.

“We don’t want to see more boarded up high streets, we want to make sure small businesses are given the circumstances and opportunities to flourish and succeed. The Chancellor must abandon this tax plan and start to address a system which rewards larger companies and abandons small enterprises”

Anna Sabine MP is committed to supporting small businesses locally. She is hosting a Business Breakfast this week which will bring together many people from across the constituency to discuss and support each other going forward, and will continue to call on the Government to make drastic changes to business rates to allow growth in the local economies.
