ANNA SABINE MP DEMANDS THE GOVERNMENT RECOGNISE THE “HUGE IMPACT” OLD OAK COMMON WILL HAVE ON THE SOUTH WEST
Speaking in today’s Westminster Hall debate on Railway Services in the South West, Anna Sabine MP for Frome and East Somerset, told the Government that the consultation on this “huge change” was “insufficient” and that more needs to be done.
Recognising the massive impact the proposed works on Old Oak Common station will have, and the unrelenting strain being put on remaining train routes, Anna once again asked the Government to take a deeper look at the potential consequences for areas such as Frome and East Somerset.
Addressing Simon Lightwood, Minister for Local Transport, she asked “Would my honourable friend agree….that we still need to have some kind of impact survey or study into the potential impacts on tourism, business and the other effects on the South West of these works at Old Oak Common?”
Anna has previously spoken of the shocking lack of consultation with the businesses and residents of the region and the seeming disregard of the effect this will have on the people of the South-West and Wales. Alongside other Liberal Democrat MPs representing the areas of Devon and Cornwall, Anna is determined to make the Government listen to the concerns of residents who will be hugely affected by this change and will continue to demand they take account of the shocking implications these decisions will have.

My constituents in Frome and East Somerset are still shocked to learn about the implications in Old Oak Common, would my honourable friend agree that the consultation on this huge change and huge impact on the south west, was insufficient and that we still need to have some kind of impact survey or study into the potential impacts on tourism, business and the other effects on the South West of these works at Old Oak Common?
